Es Weinachtet! (It Christmases?) - The week before Christmas

'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the city
The snow was a blanket, all white, cold and pretty

The students were learning the American way
And their teacher got to celebrate almost every day

And while outside there were markets full of hot spiced wine
And trinkets for buying, cookies on which to dine

Inside this teacher got a tasty treat -
A Salzburger Knockerl! (which is challenging to eat...)

The week was so full of celebratory glee:
First was dinner with the colleagues, quite the sight to see!

Next came drinking and dancing with the Slazburger crowd,
Where all the assistants sang carols aloud.

And finally when we thought we could have no more fun
We discovered a new market - a most beautiful one!

Though the castle Hellbrunn was bitterly cold,
We enjoyed the festivities and the decorations so bold.

At the end of the week it was time to return
To the families and homes for which we so yearned

So with a quick 'bye, I was homeward bound
Just barely escaping before snow halted the town

And on the train from the town that had become so dear,
I cried "Merry Christmas, I'll see you next year!!"
